A Torrington man admitted to lighting a car on fire because he didn't believe in the Mormon ideologies of the vehicle's owner, police say.
Samuel Vandeusen, 22, of Torrington was charged with arson, breach of peace, criminal mischief and deprivation of rights.
Police say they were called to a home on East Pearl Street for the report of a car fire just before 4 a.m.
When police arrived, they were met by a witness who told them someone who lives inside the home lit a 2022 Chevy Equinox on fire by its gas tank.
Police say Vandeusen confessed to starting the fire because he didn’t like or agree with the owner of the vehicle's ideologies.
He was arrested and held on a $250,000 bond.
