Fairfield police say that a woman was struck and killed by a train while trying to cross the tracks at the Fairfield station.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.
Police say that the 31-year-old Waterbury woman apparently jumped onto the tracks in an effort to reach the opposite platform.
Officials say that as the train approached, she apparently tried to seek shelter under the platform when the train sideswiped and killed her.
Police say at this point that it appears to be an accident.
