Three Stamford residents are behind bars after police say they were involved in fatally shooting a 43-year-old woman Monday evening.
Investigators say Maxine Gooden was shot in the torso while standing outside her apartment on Merrell Avenue, while her two daughters were inside the home.
Witnesses say she was approached by two people who fired multiple shots and then ran for about a block to a getaway car.
Police believe it was a targeted shooting. They say no one else was injured.
Police say two witnesses on a nearby soccer field ran after the suspects and followed them to a parking lot. The two witnesses were able to provide information about the getaway car, making an arrest possible just 10 minutes later.
Jhonel Telemin, 21, Deshawn Hayes, 23, and Morris Joel Moore were arraigned Tuesday.
A judge set a $1 million bond for each of the three suspects. They will all be back in court on Dec. 2.
Friends and family of Gooden say she loved to make homemade Jamaican food and would serve it to the entire community. They have turned the scene of the crime into a memorial in her honor.
Police are praising the two bystanders who took action.
