Symbols of Pride
were ripped down and torn on the Stepney Green in Monroe just before the end of
June.
Members of the
Save Our Stepney Task Force, a group that preserves the character of the
village of Stepney, put up five rainbow flags.
The president says
as the flags were about to be taken down, he noticed some were missing. Other
members say they don't understand why someone would do something like this.
The Stepney
Volunteer Fire Department fixed the lines the flags were on Friday morning so
other flags can fly again on the historic green.
First Selectman
Ken Kellog tells News 12 that the vandalism alone on town property is
upsetting. He says the nature of this incident goes beyond that, is extremely
disturbing and not reflective of our community.
Police are
investigating.
