Primary polls closed today, but reopen on Saturday for one last day of early voting
As early voting for the presidential primaries comes to a close on Saturday, efforts to encourage voter participation are in full swing.
Rep. Jim Himes (D-4th) recently visited Weston Town Hall to advocate for early voting, joined by Weston First Selectwoman Sam Nestor. The duo also filmed a video to raise awareness about the importance of casting ballots early.
Himes says early voting provides flexibility for many and makes it easier for people to have their voices heard. "There are always a group of people who find it challenging to vote on only one day a year. And you had the opportunity in Connecticut to vote previously by absentee ballot. But until the pandemic, prior to the pandemic you need a reason to use an absentee ballot you needed to be absented or be ill. You don't need an excuse to do early voting."
There is no voting today because of the Good Friday holiday.
Voting on Saturday can be done between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. People are encouraged to check their community's early voting location because it may be different than their normal polling site.
Primary day is this Tuesday and polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
