A large group of students at Staples High School in Westport have been sharing pictures that make fun of minorities and people with disabilities to a private Facebook group, according to the principal and some classmates.
The principal sent home a letter describing the mean-spirited posts and wrote that a student who had access to the posts came forward to administrators.
A number of freshman students tell News 12 Connecticut that classmates also posted racist or otherwise offensive memes to the invite-only Facebook group. Some of the posts targeted people of certain religions.
They say the group has been open for several months and hundreds of students are part of it.
News 12 reached out to both the superintendent of Westport Schools and the principal of Staples High School but has not yet heard back.
