Prosecutors said in court Tuesday that a Shelton man admitted to fatally shooting his wife of nearly three decades.

According to police, Thomas Infante shot his wife Lisa during an argument in their Hickory Lane home Sunday night. They said the couple's four children were home at the time.

Police said the suspect surrendered Monday afternoon. He was charged with murder.

The couple had been married for 27 years, but court records show that Lisa Infante had sought paperwork for a divorce.

Inside Derby Superior Court Tuesday, prosecutors said that Infante confessed to killing his wife. They also said that Infante almost made it to Ohio before changing his mind and then turning himself in to Shelton police.

Infante remained silent in court, and his attorney only said that his client willingly turned himself in to detectives.

Because Infante fled the area before turning himself in, a judge raised his bond to $1.5 million. He is due back in court Oct. 8.

Friends gathered Monday night to remember Lisa Infante as a woman who devoted her life to saving others as an EMT. About a month ago, she posted an ominous message on her Facebook page: "Sometimes giving someone a second chance is like giving them an extra bullet for their gun because they missed you the first time."
