More and more cities and towns around the state are holding vaping forums to increase awareness of the dangers of electronic cigarettes.

As of this September, there have been over 450 possible cases of lung illness across 33 states associated with vaping. There have been five deaths. In Connecticut, the Department of Health says they have seen 25 lung-related injuries and one death.

Parents, students and local leaders, including state Sen. Tony Hwang and Connecticut's Attorney General William Tong came out Thursday to discuss and educate about the dangers and harmful effects of the products.

The meeting was held at Fairfield Woods Middle School in Fairfield.

"We need to focus on this not just in this state but across this country. It's a growing epidemic. We're seeing it in Fairfield, we're seeing it in Stamford, we're seeing it across the state, middle schoolers, high schoolers," says Tong.

Back in July, Tong's office opened an investigation into JUUL, which has marketed itself as an effective way to vape but did not have FDA approval.
