There's a destination just a short ferry ride from Manhattan, that provides an escape that feels like a European wellness getaway.

QC NY Spa located on Governors Island, is a 90,000-square-foot oasis offering more than 30 amenties, including saunas, relaxation rooms and infinity pools overlooking the skyline.

"I like to see it as the city's backyard," said Helena Dea Bala of QC Spa of Wonders.

The spa, the first of its kind in the United States, is designed to encourage guests to wander at their own pace. From dry to wet saunas to scented relaxation rooms, the experience is meant to transport visitors into a state of calm.

"It is designed to come and experience one thing from another, like an Alice in Wonderland type of trip," Dea Bala said, "where you start some place and then slowly throughout the day go throughout other experiences."

Guests can also enjoy thermal pools with postcard-worthy views, calming serums and lotions, and even an Italian-inspired aperitivo hour featuring Aperol spritzes.

"You're not on your phone, you don't have to be anywhere, you're not worried about missing a deadline," said Dea Bala.

She describes the atmosphere with an Italian phrase 'dolce far niente' the sweetness of doing nothing.

QC NY Spa is open year-round on Governors Island.
