The latest in what Norwalk police are calling a string of break-ins occurred Tuesday night at a Chinese restaurant.

The owners of Rice King Chinese Restaurant on New Canaan Avenue say less than a half-hour after they closed, someone threw a rock through their front door. They say though they had to shell out approximately $300 to fix the door, they are lucky no one was hurt and nothing was stolen.

Police say the incident is the latest in a series of smash-and-grab robberies on New Canaan Avenue. According to police, a lot of mom-and-pop operations are being targeted.

On Monday morning, Li?s Brothers Chinese Restaurant was broken into for the second time in less than a month. In that incident, some cash was stolen. An out-of-business pizza shop, a convenience store and a clothing business on New Canaan Avenue were also all hit.

Norwalk police say they are stepping up patrols in the area.
