A voluntary recall has been issued for three lots of Ortho-Novum birth control pill
Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced Wednesday that it was issuing a voluntary recall on one lot of Ortho-Novum 1/35 and two lots of Ortho-Novum 7/7/7 due to incorrect Veridate dispenser instructions
The company says that the potential risk of taking the pills without the appropriate instructions could cause consumers to take the pills in the incorrect order. Birth controls bills must be taken on a certain schedule and order in order to be effective
Janssen Pharmaceuticals assures its customers that the product itself is safe and effective when used with the appropriate dispenser instructions.
“Women should continue to take the 21 "active" pills (with hormones) (peach for Ortho-Novum 1/35; white, light-peach and peach for Ortho-Novum 7/7/7) for three weeks, followed by the one week of green "reminder" pills (without hormones),” the company said in a statement.
The correct instructions for the dispenser can be found at the company’s website.
