(AP) - Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell says she will immediately veto the General Assembly's bill to ban the deathpenalty in the state.
Rell says she understands the passionate beliefs of people onboth sides, but thinks the death penalty is appropriate for certainheinous crimes.
The state Senate voted early Friday to replace capitalpunishment with life in prison without parole. The bill also passedthe state House last week.
The bill would require Rell's signature to go into effect unlesslawmakers can corral enough votes to override her veto.
