Gov. Jodi Rell (R-Conn.) stuck to her word and vetoed a $3.2 billion package for infrastructure projects, but some local officials say her veto comes at the expense of education.
Much of the money in the package would have gone toward school construction projects that are already in progress. Mayors across Fairfield County say they need the money to continue building and are considering legal action.
?I really feel strongly that she could have supported the package and supported the projects she felt were important rather than vetoing the whole package,? State Rep. Chris Perone (D-Norwalk) said.
Rell says she vetoed the bill because it was too expensive and wants lawmakers to come up with a more fiscally responsible version.
The money in the bill would also go to projects for improving the quality of the Long Island Sound.
Both Democrats and Republicans in Hartford have agreed to sit down for more negotiations.
