Officials say human remains have been found in the search for the wreckage of a small plane that disappeared yesterday as it approached Danbury Airport.
Eric Horsa says his father, Val Horsa, and his stepmother, Taew, were in the 1971 single-engine Cessna that vanished on their approach to Danbury Airport at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Horsa says his father was an experienced pilot, and the couple was returning from a trip from Mississippi.
Rescue boats and divers from the Croton and Yorktown Heights fire departments searched the reservoir Thursday night looking for any signs of the plane. Foggy conditions forced crews to suspend the search overnight, but first responders resumed searching by helicopter, in boats, and on foot Friday morning.
The remains were found Friday afternoon and are being taken to the Westchester Medical Examiner's Office.
Horsa says his father and stepmother had owned the Bangkok Restaurant in Danbury for 30 years. Workers at the restaurant say Val Horsa often took employees aboard flights on his plane.
Officials say they don't know yet why the plane went down.
Search efforts will again resume Saturday morning as investigators seek the rest of the plane's wreckage.
