New unemployment numbers from July reported a drop in the national rate, but one local business and congressman are still hesitant to claim victory.
Southfield Packaging in Stamford used to employ 150, now it has just 25 employees. Despite indicators that business is turning around, managers hope a visit Friday from U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) can bring federal help and attention to the plant.
"There is almost nothing more important that I do than try to find ways to assist small businesses in our community," Himes says. "It's those businesses that will hire people and help us get back on our feet."
