Driver accused in fatal state trooper hit-and-run accepts plea deal
The Hartford man accused of killing a state trooper in a hit-and-run crash last year pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree manslaughter.
He accepted a plea agreement that will have him serve 18 years in prison.
Investigators say on May 30, 2024, Alex Oyola-Sanchez, 44, sideswiped State Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier’s cruiser on I-84 east in Southington. The trooper was standing outside his vehicle conducting a traffic stop at the time of the crash.
Officials say Oyola-Sanchez drove off, but broke down five miles away. They say he admitted taking fentanyl before the crash.
He will be sentenced on April 29.
