Residents rallied today for safety and sound barriers to be installed at a construction site in Fairfield.

The construction is taking place by exit 22 on I-95, where two service areas are currently being built.

Residents involved in "Honk for Safety" say they want to make sure there is a strong divide between the rest stops and their community.

Parents are also concerned because there is a school within walking distance of the rest areas.

Fairfield State Representative Kim Fawcett says last May, an out-of-state truck driver stopped at the old rest stop and wandered over to Robert Ludlowe High School. The driver walked across an open grass area into the high school, worked out in the gym, then took a shower in the boys' locker room before he was apprehended by local police.

Large barriers have been built recently at stops in nearby Darien, and residents want the developer to follow suit.

State officials will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday where people can voice their concerns over the rest stops. The project's developer is expected to attend.
