You might call it the "Purr-fect" spot for a cup of coffee, an espresso or a bite to eat.
Two Wrasslin' Cats Accord is just up the road from the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam.
Owner Mark Thiede opened the shop as a retirement gig more than 10 years ago. Named after his two cats Larry & Bruno, he says what it has turned is really because of the community. Decorated with art, photos, trinkets, cats, cats and more cats -- all were gifts his customers brought in from day to day.
The menu, he says, was put together "on the fly" and hasn't changed much since its inception. Fun sandwiches like the Furry Curry, Trudi's Catch of the Day and the Tomcat Turkey are all fan favorites.
A more recent addition to the cafe is the adjacent Cat Lounge, where visitors can visit with Mark's six sibling cats, which really love the attention. For a donation of $3 to $5, the cats (and humans) can enjoy cuddles - all for a good cause.
The money raised helps area spay and neutering efforts as well as other feline wellness programs. So far, the cats have helped to raise $36,000.
Owner Mark Thiede says his coffee house is a place where everyone is welcome, even if you are not a cat lover.
Two Wrasslin' Cats Accord is closed on Tuesdays.
