A historic theatre got a much-needed makeover that some say was long overdue.
The Fairfield Community Theatre has hosted countless events over the years, but for the last decade the stage was quiet.
Construction started last fall, and Sacred Heart University has made a major investment in the property.
The marquee has now been changed to rename it the Sacred Heart University Community Theatre.
Theater Director Bill Harris says it was important to bring back this historic landmark.
SHU will lease the facility for the next 10 years and run it as an independent nonprofit performance and education center.
The theater expects to open virtually this spring.
The theater also talked to the New Haven Symphony Orchestra about a residence program. There's also discussion of an after-school program.
