The Westport location of the popular local ice cream and candy shop, Saugatuck Sweets, is closing its doors after 10 years of business.
Owners Chris and Al DiGuido announced they would be closing the Saugatuck Sweets Westport store effective immediately after Dec. 17.
According to a post made by the store, the closure comes after a financial battle triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple said these recent economic challenges greatly impacted the business and keeping it open would not be a viable option.
Anyone looking for a sweet treat after Sunday can still go to the Fairfield location on Reef Road, which will remain open after the Westport closing.
The owners also said anyone who purchased or received gift cards from Westport will continue to be honored at the Fairfield shop.
