Sen. Richard Blumenthal is calling on major U.S. airlines to temporarily end their flight-changing or cancellation fees while many countries began suspending flights due to the spread of the coronavirus.
In a letter to the CEO of American, Sen. Blumenthal wrote that, "American Airlines should use all resources at its disposal to protect consumers and its workforce from the spread of COVID-19 or Coronavirus. I strongly urge you to suspend all flight cancellation and change fees immediately for tickets purchased prior to March 2020, and for a reasonable amount of time to provide individuals and families with flexibility and peace of mind when it comes to their travel plans."
JetBlue and Alaska Airlines made changes to their policies, and American Airlines announced a similar change but with restrictions.
