Sen. Richard Blumenthal was tested for COVID-19 Wednesday at a pop-up testing site on the New Haven Green.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Sen. Blumenthal were joined by other officials during a press conference on the green. The free, walk-up clinic allowed people even without symptoms to get tested.
"We have more than enough capacity in the state of Connecticut to test everyone," says Dr. Steven Murphy, of Murphy Medical Associates. Lamont says that the state is focusing on testing first responders, people in prisons, nursing homes, doctors and other health care workers.
The site is the latest pop-up to begin testing people for the coronavirus.
"It's important to take testing to where people are," says Lamont. "We've had the drive-up test at CVS for some time. That tends to be a somewhat self-selecting group that drives through."
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker was also in attendance. Blumenthal should get his test results by Thursday.
Health officials also say Connecticut doesn't have enough testing capacity yet for widespread business reopenings, which could happen by late June.
Walk-up testing was also held in Bridgeport, and the group that organized the event holds drive-up tests throughout Fairfield County.
