Sen. Richard Blumenthal released new evidence on Friday which he said points to a "culture of coverup" among officials in charge of investigating sexual assault reports at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

"Covering up its reports of sexual assault and harassment at the Academy and in the Coast Guard was the result of a purposeful strategy – demonstrated in these documents – to deceive the American people and Congress. The culture of cover-up seems to be continuing,” said Blumenthal.

Blumenthal said the documents date back to when the investigation began and show how officials weighed the pros and cons of turning over crucial evidence related to their findings.
