Sen. Richard Blumenthal is warning President Donald Trump that the choice he makes for the Supreme Court could impact health care for those with pre-existing conditions.
The senator appeared at Connecticut Children's Medical Center with doctors and patients. There is currently a court battle over the Trump administration's decision to stop defending the Affordable Care Act in cases that involve pre-existing conditions.
"The administration is refusing to defend a law that protects literally millions of Americans, hundreds of thousands here in Connecticut, against the denial of coverage with pre-existing conditions," Sen. Blumenthal says. “Denial of health care is denial of a fundamental human right, and that’s what our constitution ought to say"
The senator says the challenges are likely to make it to the Supreme Court, where the president's choice to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy could cast a pivotal vote.
