Sen. Chris Murphy went door to door in Bridgeport Wednesday to urge residents to fill out the 2020 census and make sure everyone is being counted.
The census helps the government allocate what cities federal money should go to and helps to decide how much money should go into essential funding, like housing, education and food stamps for each state.
Bridgeport and Hartford reportedly have some of the lowest response rates in the U.S., with Bridgeport only having a 50% response rate.
Murphy says funding is even more important because of the pandemic.
He says he's making sure every household knows the form is easy to fill out and safe to submit.
President Donald Trump moved the submission date of the census forms up to September instead of October, giving residents a month less to make their voices heard.
The Census Bureau has also resumed in-person visits to neighborhoods with low response rates.
