Sen. Richard Blumenthal says a measure he and Republican Sen. Josh Hawley are working on would protect the public from the dangers posed by artificial intelligence.
Blumenthal said the framework for the legislation ramps up efforts to regulate the emerging technology by, among other safeguards, requiring AI companies to apply for licensing.
"I've seen personally how impersonations and fraudulent photographs can mislead people, and this bipartisan framework coming out of the subcommittee that I chair provides a path to legislation – real protection – against the perils of AI."
He says the measure would also clarify that a tech liability shield would not protect AI companies from lawsuits.
