It's Sales Tax Free Week in Connecticut and shoppers are gearing up for back-to-school season.
For one week, no tax will be applied to shoes or clothing items priced at less than $100. This year's Sales Tax Free Week began on Sunday, Aug. 18, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 24.
The National Retail Federation estimates parents and students will spend over $80 billion on back-to-school items this year. By state estimate, Connecticut shoppers are expected to save nearly $5 million.
Ann Scanlon, a store manager at Macy's in Trumbull, tells News 12 that this week's most popular purchases include backpacks, denim, sneakers and school uniforms. Macy's shoppers will reap added savings by shopping the fall preview sale, Scanlon says.
