The Town of Westport is hosting its annual Sidewalk Sale this weekend, with over 75 local businesses setting up shop in the downtown area.
Most of them have tables and tents ready and are offering steep discounts and sales.
"They want to get their names out there, they want to meet the people, they want to be part of the community – and they want you to see the different types of products they're offering," said Beth Meyer, the events director for the Westport Downtown Association.
Beyond the exposure, some local stores say it also helps with networking.
"We also have met a lot of other cool vendors and cool shops that we didn't know about before," said Chloe Breslin, the co-owner of Hughie's Jewelry in Southport. "And then we follow each other on Instagram, and you can do some marketing stuff together."
Almost every type of store is represented, with restaurants, clothing and jewelry stores setting up tables, including some from name brands.
"You actually find some stuff that they don't normally have, like some of the athletic clothes down there they just bring up things you don't find in stores," said Norwalk resident Brian Nolan, who was perusing the wares at Vineyard Vines.
The Westport Downtown Association encourages people to spend some time and make a day out of it – advice being taken by Westport resident Ilana Baron, who said "it's nice to be able to like bop around and support local businesses."
The Sidewalk Sale is happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
