Three sisters from northern Westchester are trying to save a single mother's life by helping her find a kidney donor.
Jennifer, Cynthia and Heather Flood launched the Flood Sisters Kidney Foundation in 2008 after finding a kidney donor for their father through Craigslist.
After nearly a year and a half of searching and vetting thousands of responses, a woman from California was a match and ultimately saved their father's life.
Daniel Flood passed in 2019 from causes unrelated to the transplant but that stranger's gift extended his life by 10 years, according to the sisters.
The trio has since dedicated their time to finding other people matches and has successfully coordinated 14 transplants to date.
They've spent the last year trying to find a donor for Miere Santos, who lives in Greenwich, Connecticut and works as a housekeeper in Westchester County.
"I love my life and it would be wonderful if someone could donate to me," said Santos in a recorded video from 2022 on the foundation's Facebook page.
The 44-year-old is a single mother and has about 10% kidney function remaining.
Anything below 15% is considered kidney failure and requires a transplant or urgent dialysis, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
"She's a hard worker, a kind woman, a mother to a 10-year old and just trying to do the best she can in raising her daughter and she's unfortunately sick and really needs the help of someone to give her that life," said Jennifer Flood, co-founder of the Flood Sisters Kidney Foundation.
Santos needs an A or O kidney donor and is currently registered at Yale New Haven Hospital.
If you think you're a match you can respond directly to the foundation's website or email jennifer@floodsisterskidneyfnd.org.
