Two of the victims who died in the American Airlines jet crash with a military helicopter in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday had ties to Connecticut.

Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were previously world-champion skating coaches in Simsbury.

Both had competed in two Olympics and moved to Connecticut in the 1990s. The two had sought a new life as coaches in the U.S. following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.

Shishkova and Naumov's profile on the Skating Club of Boston website indicated that both qualified as sports instructors in St. Petersburg, Russia, and each had over 20 years of coaching experience.

Naumov coached at the International Skating Center of Connecticut from 2011 to 2016, according to his personal profile on the Skating Club of Boston website.
