Retired U.S. women's soccer star and World Cup champion Abby Wambach spoke in Greenwich Thursday, despite a recent arrest that made headlines.
Wambach was the keynote speaker at the annual luncheon for the Fund for Women and Girls, a group based in Fairfield County.
At the event, Wambach addressed hundreds of fans, answering questions about her success as an athlete, as well as her DUI arrest on Saturday.
Police say the arrest was made in Portland, Oregon, after Wambach apparently ran a red light.
Wambach pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge on Tuesday.
Wambach told the luncheon audience that she was ashamed of her decision to get behind the wheel, and hoped it would serve as an important life lesson.
Speaking on her soccer career, the Team USA star said her accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of others.
