Connecticut schools are closed through at least May 20, but some are hoping to reopen before summer.

School superintendents say they'd like students in the classroom this year, even for just a few weeks in June and even if they're on a staggered schedule.

Right now, kids are receiving assignments to work on at home, but parents like Robin Abramowicz in Easton say, so far, the lessons are pretty limited.

"At this point, we're still kind of in its infancy," said Abramowicz. "There's a lot of review. I don't know how much novel material. It's hard to teach a completely new topic when you don't have a captive audience."

In Bridgeport, the school superintendent says they've sent about 5,000 laptops and tablets to kids who need them. But he admits, some students aren't even checking in with their schools.

"If we can bring our kids back this year, even for two weeks, I would love that opportunity," said Superintendent Michael Testani. "Just to make sure kids could come back to see their teachers, see each other, and just get to some sort of feeling of normalcy."

Ultimately, Gov. Ned Lamont will decide if schools reopen this year. His office said Wednesday a reopening plan is still in the very early stages.

The governor's office also said the first batch of free laptops donated by Greenwich billionaire Ray Dallio should be in students' hands in two weeks.
