With testing up and hospitalizations down, the state is moving forward with its plan to partially reopen next week, but some lawmakers from inside Gov. Ned Lamont's own party are questioning if that's the right move.

Some Democratic senators say the state needs to show sustained increases in testing, contact tracing and supplying PPE before they can allow people to enter businesses.

The senators say since community transmission is still occurring, Lamont should delay the May 20 date.

Despite the detractors, the governor says he feels comfortable about next week's reopening. But Democratic senators say reopening too early could add fuel to the first wave.

"Numbers are still climbing, hospitalizations are still climbing in some counties and the strategy has to incorporate that and be sensitive to that," said Sen. Alex Kasser.

Kasser also says the contact tracing system has yet to show sustained success and it is too early to rely on that when it has not proven to work.
