Stamford officials say that many of the city's beaches may have to remain closed during the spring season due to extensive damage from Hurricane Sandy.

The storm caused severe erosion on many of the beaches, pushing the sand out into different areas. This created mounds of sand, and buried benches and tables.

Stamford Director of Operations Ernie Ogera says Hurricane Sandy will likely cost the city between $6 million and $8 million in damage, most of which is along the coast.

Officials say the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be in Stamford Monday to tour the damage.
