A group of Soundview neighbors is drawing attention to an overpass that it says is not only an eyesore, but also a health hazard.
Pedestrians complain that the elevated walkway, which stretches over Bruckner Expressway at Strafford Avenue, is filthy and littered with piles of trash.
Latoya Kibler is one of the people who uses the overpass to get to stores across the roadway. She claims the Department of Sanitation told her that the crossing is cleaned monthly, but she finds that hard to believe.
News 12 cameras not only found an excess of garbage, but also credit card statements and other pieces of discarded mail. Some people say they've been having a problem with mail being taken from a nearby mailbox.
The Department of Sanitation says it's looking into the matter. News 12 also reached out to the U.S. Postal Service about mailboxes allegedly being tampered, but has not yet heard back.
