According to a source close to the negotiations, Bobby Valentine and the Boston Red Sox have agreed on a deal for Valentine to take over as manager of the team next year.
Valentine currently is an analyst for ESPN and serves as Stamford's public safety director. He also previously was the manager of the New York Mets.
The Stamford native was named Stamford's Citizen of the Year in 2010.
"I'm going to miss him as part of my cabinet because he was that kind of person," says Stamford Mayor Mike Pavia. "That kind of energetic, selfless guy that comes along only once in a great while."
