Rain melted away much of the snow on Route 7 in Norwalk, improving road conditions significantly by Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the state Department of Transportation said the latest storm is the 10th this winter, and the state budgeted for 11 storms this season. The state said it's already used 80 to 85 percent of its snow removal budget, but it will not cut back on storm cleanup in the future.

The spokesperson for the DOT said maintenance crews reported that the toughest road conditions were seen in southwestern Connecticut Wednesday.

"It wasn't very clear and there was a lot of slush and ice around so it was tough going earlier,? Rob Quaranta, of Wilton, said.

The state DOT also said it will pull approximately $7 million from other sources in the department in order to avoid trimming cleanup service during future storms.
