The St. Mary School’s annual basketball tournament was held Sunday.
The event, which has been a community staple for nearly a half a century, brings together youth basketball teams from all parts of the state.
Stacey Caterbone says her children attend St. Mary School in Milford, and that everyone benefits from the school's annual basketball tournament.
"The tournament's a great opportunity for kids, not only for our school to raise money, but for the kids to really show their sportsmanship, show their athleticism and to have an overall really good time with their classmates,” she says.
Admission is just a few dollars and Caterbone says all the proceeds go back to the school.
St. Mary School also holds a raffle with most of the prizes coming from local businesses.
Caterbone says "good people" of all ages help make it a unique fundraiser.
"I think the camaraderie of the students and of all the families that come on and support all of the teams that play...I think that's what the best draw of this tournament is,” she says. "We hope it continues another 46 years. It's just such a great draw for the school and a good opportunity for the kids."
St. Mary School parents were serving up food all day. Snack shack officials say the most popular item is the St. Mary School’s shamrock shake.
