Stamford officials voted in favor of opening a new DMV branch at a public hearing Monday night.
The new facility would be located at the Lathon Wider Center, which is owned by the city. Mayor David Martin says there is space to house the DMV there. The old facility at the Stamford Government Center closed in 2009 to save costs.
The committee voted in favor of the DMV, though some members abstained on the vote.
Monday's hearing was the final step for the lease approval. The full board of representatives will discuss the matter next month.
