The body of a Stamford fisherman was found Sunday in a lake in Kent.
Rescue crews found 50-year-old Ihor Korol's body Sunday afternoon after he fell from a boat on Lake Waramaug after experiencing a health-related issue, according to authorities.
Korol's friend, Greg Rajkiewicz, was on the boat with him when the two ended up in the water. Rajkiewicz says he believes Korol may have suffered a stroke or heart attack, causing him to fall off the boat.
Rajkiewicz says he jumped in to save Korol, but he underestimated the cold temperature of the water and the distance to shore. He says he was faced with a life-or-death decision, ultimately choosing to leave Korol so he could safely swim to shore.
"I just lost too much energy. I got very tired and I just let him go," he says.
Rajkiewicz says he's been comforted by friends since the accident. He says he'll always remember Korol for his caring personality, laugh and love for life.
