Officials in Stamford want residents to be legally responsible if anyone slips and falls on unshoveled sidewalks.
Mayor David Martin has submitted a proposal that would put the legal responsibility for snow-related injuries onto property owners.
Published reports say a recent state Supreme Court ruling declared that homeowners can't be sued unless municipal law makes them liable.
Right now, Stamford requires property owners to clear their walkways within 12 hours after a storm, but does not address liability.
