Stamford is moving forward on plans to purchase body cameras for its police department.
The city is looking to purchase 161 body cameras for officers.
It will cost the city $138,000 this year and a little more in the next budget. With the grand total being more than $700,000, the rest will be covered by a federal grant.
Assistant Chief Tom Wuennemann says the department will narrow seven vendors down to three. Officers will then spend several months testing each brand.
Norwalk police officers are already wearing the body cameras.
The federal grant will also bring body cameras to Bridgeport police, but the program is on hold because of the city's budget crisis.
