Police say a suspect who barricaded himself inside his home appears to have taken his own life. The incident happened Tuesday at 263 Oaklawn Avenue across the street from Fairfield Memorial Park.
Stamford Superior Court received letters from the couple that has lived here.
They state the couple was facing financial hardship and was about to be evicted yesterday.
The husband wrote he had been living with a cancerous tumor in his head.
In one of the letters his wife writes, "Please have mercy on me and allow me, my husband and my dog, to stay in my home until after the holidays, March 2026. Winter is coming and I'm afraid I am going to be left on the street."
Multiple agencies, including the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit, responded to the scene.
No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire, according to city officials. The Office of the Inspector General is conducting an investigation.
