The city of Stamford unveiled new services Wednesday to benefit the city's homeless population as the temperature drops.
The city opened an expanded emergency homeless shelter for families. It is run by the nonprofit group Inspirica. The shelter's capacity is now doubled, so an additional 48 families can receive two months of emergency shelter before transitioning to permanent housing.
The state commissioner of housing gave Inspirica nearly $200,000 to operate the shelter and another grant for its Jump Start program.
Stamford also opened its first emergency overnight warming center.
