Stamford police collected unwanted weapons by holding a gun buyback event at their headquarters on Saturday.
Police offered as much as $150 for unwanted guns. Other weapons, like knives, were also collected, as were violent video games and movies.
Sgt. Tom Wolff, of the department's firearms unit, says it's a good way for residents to comfortably get rid of weapons they don't want. "It keeps it from getting into the wrong hands, if their home ever gets broken into, or keeps it from a child ever picking it up, and God knows we wouldn't want a tragic accident like that to happen," he said.
Police say they collected 18 guns yesterday.
