Stamford police have enlisted the help of outside forensic technicians to investigate racist threats left on a city teen's voicemail.
Candace Owen, a Stamford High School senior, received three threatening and racist voice messages last month. She recently returned to school after being tutored at home for a time due to safety concerns. Criminal experts say voice analysis is a great tool, because like fingerprints, no two voices are alike. The messages left on Owen?s voicemail, allegedly by several of her white classmates, will be analyzed using a spectograph. The technology filters out background sounds to extract the recorded voice.
The technology is new and legal experts say this could call into question its validity, should the matter be heard in court. Stamford police would not say where they are sending the tapes, but they did say they expect more arrests within the next week.
