Stamford police are warning residents about a scam in which people are being told they owe fines or that there is a warrant out for their arrest.
Police say they are receiving a high volume of calls because their dispatch number, 203-977-4444, is being spoofed.
As part of the scam, scammers are posing as dispatch officers who inform people that they owe fines or are the subject of an arrest warrant.
Police say they do not call individuals about fines or arrest warrants.
Anyone who receives one of these calls is asked not to share any personal information, hang up immediately and contact police.
