Stamford residents took steps to make sure safety is at the top of everyone's Halloween checklist.

The Ferguson Library held a Halloween-themed story time to teach children safe trick-or-treating habits, with Mayor David Martin even appearing as a guest reader in costume as Abraham Lincoln.
Martin advised drivers and parents to watch out for trick-or-treaters and keep an eye on their children, especially when crossing the street.
As for the kids, Martin advised that all of the treats they collect are looked over by adults before eating.
