A $10.5 million federal grant for improvements is on the way for the Stamford Transportation Center.
Another $28.5 million in state and private funds is also being allocated to the facility as the city estimates that the number of people using the hub will double in the coming years.
To make room for that growth, officials say the money will go toward a pedestrian walkway, making it easier for UBS and RBS employees to cross Washington Boulevard.
It will also fund building longer platforms to make room for more commuters during peak hours.
Officials say work will begin in about two months and take three or four years to complete.
