State lawmakers seek new legislation on fake guns
Connecticut lawmakers are pushing for new legislation to help distinguish fake guns from real guns.
The new law would require toymakers to place bright markers on all toy guns.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says police have killed 86 people carrying toy guns. He says some toy guns made to look like real guns are tragedies waiting to happen.
"Police have such a difficult job in the night when they see something that looks like a firearm, they have to assume it’s real," Blumenthal says. "That's why the bright, permanent clear colors will enable them and children to avoid tragedies which have happened all too frequently here in Connecticut and around the country."
Meanwhile, law enforcement and doctors around the state are urging people to avoid buying toy guns for the holidays.
